Thanks for a reasonable and varied "short-term emergency" food list. This list allows simple foods to be prepared easily, yet has items like dried fruit that add interest and flavor. This list allows those on a limited budget to choose Items to build up their emergency supply according to their budgets. However, there are no sizes or weights listed on these items. Please add amounts (in both English and metric measures) to these items.

It would be great to have a two week meal plan with recipes to go with the list, one with electricity being available, and one without electricity being available. The plan could be kept in the pantry with the food so it is immediately available.

Thank you for addressing the needs of seniors.

Hi Glenda! These recommendations are based on an emergency only. This is really a bare minimum and is intended to be for a short period of time. Based on individual needs more water can be stored. Here is an article on dehydration in the elderly for more information: https://thegeriatricdietitian.com/dehydration-in-elderly/

I am very curious every prepper site that I have read recommends a minimum of 1 gallon of drinking water per person per day. With older people tending toward becoming dehydrated in winter due to heat being on and in summer due to the heat of the ambient temperature. Are you comfortable with only 1/2 gallon of water to drink per day?
